Michie Koyama

Winner of Fourth Prize in the 11th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (1985). She also took part in international music competitions in Tokyo (semi-finalist, 1980) and Moscow (the Tchaikovsky; Third Prize, 1882). She attended the secondary school of music attached to Tokyo University and completed studies on the university’s Department of Fine Arts and Music. In 1991, she made her debut in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Royal Festival Hall). She has completed several tours of Europe and the United States. She boasts a wide-ranging repertoire, covering some sixty piano concertos and dozens of solo works from the Baroque through to contemporary times. She also appears in chamber ensembles, notably with violinist Augustin Dumay and pianist Maria João Pires.
